With rational management, the petroleum sector was able during the seven years to achieve outstanding business results in terms of developing refineries and increasing their production capacity. It also successfully invested in the state’s economic reform policy, rationalizing fuel subsidies, correcting prices and increasing local production of natural gas, thus creating stability in the local market and launching competition between marketing companies. To provide distinguished products and services that satisfy customers in the local market. The most important indicators of the success of that rational management of natural resources were the following:
- A decrease in the consumption of fuel from diesel and gasoline80’, the consumption of diesel decreased from 14.3 million tons in 2016/2017 to about 12.2 million tons in 20/2021, a decrease of about 14%, and the same period witnessed a decrease in consumption of gasoline 80 from 3.9 million tons to 3 million tons, a decrease of about 23%.
- The monthly average of CNG sales for cars increased from about 30 million cubic meters per year in 2016/2017 to about 62 million cubic meters in the current fiscal year, as a result of converting vehicles consuming liquid fuels (gasoline and diesel) to CNG. Supplying cars with liquid fuel during the period from June 2014 until the end of March 2021, which operated 1129 stations, bringing the total number of liquid fuel stations until the end of March 2021 to 3,823 stations.
- Marketing companies are constantly encouraged to create new outlets to serve the local market and to increase investment in infrastructure. A new type of brand-name 95 gasoline has been launched for Mobil, Total, Egypt and Taawun Petroleum, in the context of improving the quality of petroleum products, keeping pace with the requirements of modern cars, and creating competition between companies for the benefit of customers.
- Million delivery rates achieved by the national project to deliver natural gas to homes, in line with the state’s policy to achieve social justice, especially for the most needy governorates and regions, and to reduce the burden on citizens in obtaining a cylinder of butane and on the state’s general budget in importing butane, as the use of natural gas has been expanded as an alternative to Butane gas during the past seven years has been the following:
- Gas delivery to about 6.1 million housing units, representing about 49% of the total number of units to which natural gas has been delivered since the start of gas delivery activity in Egypt in 1981 (over 40 years), amounting to about 12.4 million housing units, and for the first time it witnessed In the last three years, a jump in delivery rates to exceed one million housing units per year, which is what is happening for the first time.
- The number of butane cylinders that have been replaced by natural gas during the past seven years is estimated to be about 110 million cylinders, which led to the reduction of the subsidy directed to the butane and the provision of an amount of more than 8 billion pounds that would have been directed to support the butane cylinders during this period.
