Scientists at the University of Texas in Dallas, in the United States, have developed a sweat sensor that works as an early warning of the inflammatory cytokine storm, which is a dangerous complication of the Corona virus, which can help doctors treat patients with the virus more effectively.
Doctors initially recognized that patients who developed a "cytokine storm" were often the sickest and most at risk of death, but this wave of pelagic disease can also occur in other diseases, such as influenza.
According to the "thehealthsite" report, the results of the research were presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society, and the researchers said that if a person could monitor levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, patients could be treated early, even before symptoms began to appear, as they developed highly sensitive tests to measure cytokine levels. Trace amounts of sweat.
And the cytokine storm has caused many deaths among young people and adults of Corona virus patients, and it is a severe and exaggerated reaction from the immune system.
Detection of cytokines in passive sweat
To develop the new sensor, called SWEATSENSER Dx, the team made sensor chips with antibodies against seven pro-inflammatory proteins, then inserted the strips into their devices, and in a small observational study, they tested it on 6 healthy people and five people with influenza, two patients showed high levels of Cytokines.
It is effective in patients taking anti-inflammatory drugs
The new sensor was sensitive enough to measure the level of cytokines even in patients taking anti-inflammatory drugs, who secrete cytokines in a low concentration range, and the researchers said the device tracked cytokine levels for up to 168 hours before the sensor tape needed to be replaced, and the team now plans to conduct an action. Clinical trials of a cytokine sensor in people with respiratory infection and those with coronavirus.
