21 candidates for the Syrian presidential elections so far, including Bashar al-Assad and a lady


The President of the Syrian People’s Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, said, “The parliament received three books from the Supreme Constitutional Court, submitting Enas Marwan al-Qawadri, Hani Adnan al-Dahan, and Muhammad Hamdi al-Salah, requests to the court to nominate themselves for the position of President of the Syrian Republic, bringing the number of applications submitted to 21, including the current Syrian president. Bashar Al-Assad, as well as the first woman to run for this position, Faten Ali Nahar.

 

The Syrian News Agency stated that this came during the eighth session of the second special session of the People's Shura Council.

 

The President of the Syrian People’s Assembly had announced the opening of candidacy for the presidential elections, in implementation of the provisions of the constitution, as of Monday, last Monday, and applications for candidacy will continue to be submitted to the Supreme Constitutional Court until the end of next Wednesday, April 28.

 

The President of the Syrian People’s Assembly stated in the third session of the second special session that based on the provisions of the Constitution of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Law of the Supreme Constitutional Court, the General Elections Law, its amendments, and its executive instructions, the Council received the letter of the Supreme Constitutional Court on April 19, 2021 containing the request submitted by Faten Ali Nahar, born Damascus 10/17-1971 is registered in the north of the field "265" by running for the post of President of the Syrian Arab Republic.

 

Various media outlets reported, citing political sources, that members of the People's Assembly, 3 days ago, began giving candidates their support to obtain 35 names in order for them to enter the presidential elections, and that the Baath Party bloc, which is about 170 members in Parliament, will give its vote to the candidate Bashar al-Assad, and about 80 votes from the National Front parties and independents will vote for two candidates.

 

Submission of applications for the presidential elections will end on the 28th of this month, and the 26th of next May has been set for the elections for Syrians abroad, and the 28th of next May as the date for holding the presidential elections inside the Syrian territories.
