Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu unveiled a plan to send about 20 new military formations and units of the Russian army in the western military region, in response to the moves of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" in the western strategic direction.
In statements reported by Russia Today, Monday, Shoigu said that the military threat continues to escalate in the western strategic direction, as NATO countries are working to increase the intensity of flights for their strategic aviation, deploy warships equipped with cruise missiles, and the number of their military exercises there is also increasing. "The actions of our Western colleagues are destroying the security system in the world and forcing us to take appropriate response measures .... We are constantly working to improve the combat formation of the forces, and by the end of the year, about 20 military formations and units will be established in the Western Military Region," he added.
He pointed out that these organizational measures "coincide with the supply of modern weapons and military equipment," adding that it is planned to provide the western region forces with about two thousand weapons this year.
