Observers are preparing for the sun perpendicular to the Holy Kaaba, next Thursday, at the time of the noon prayer at the Grand Mosque at 9:18 GMT, which is the first orthodoxy of this year.
The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Engineer Majed Abu Zahra, said in a statement today that the sun at the moment of perpendicularity will be at its maximum height (89.55.37 degrees) about 90 degrees at which the shadow of the Kaaba and the shadows of all objects in Makkah will disappear, and at the same moment the sun will be tilted at The sky of distant regions, the farther the distance from Mecca, the greater the inclination of the sun in the dome of the sky, so the ancients used perpendicularity to determine the direction of the qiblah in a simple way that is not less accurate than modern monitoring techniques.
He explained that the phenomenon of sun perpendicularity is also used in calculating the circumference of the Earth by some simple rules in geometry, an ancient method dating back more than two thousand years that proved the sphericity of the Earth.
He added that the phenomenon of the crosshairs of the sun occurs because the location of the Holy Kaaba is between the equator and the Tropic of Cancer. During the apparent movement of the sun across the sky it becomes straight with the Kaaba as it moves from the equator to the Tropic of Cancer during the month of May, where the first perpendicular occurs, and when the sun returns south to a line The equator coming from the Tropic of Cancer in July is when the second orthodontic occurs.
He pointed out that as a result, areas located in latitudes less than 23.5 degrees north and south all witness the orthogonal phenomenon twice a year, but at different times depending on the latitude of that place, and it is characterized by a few places confined between the equator and the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
He emphasized that residents of Arab countries and regions adjacent to the Arctic, Africa, Europe, China, Russia and East Asia can use the phenomenon of perpendicularity to the sun to determine the direction of the qiblah by placing a piece of "wood", for example, perpendicularly upright on the surface of the earth at the time of perpendicularity, and the opposite direction of the shadow will point directly towards the Holy Kaaba .
He pointed out that the orthodoxy will be repeated the next day, Friday, with a slight difference in the corner from the previous day, "Thursday", when the sun will be at an altitude (89.54.41 degrees) at the time of the noon prayer in the Grand Mosque.
