The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his full appreciation for the clear vision that the Sudanese state is pursuing with all responsibility despite all the difficulties, explaining that it has made great strides in agreeing and implementing the benefits of the transitional phase, which is a process that the partners committed themselves to standing by their side as was evident in Meetings of the Friends of Sudan Group, the Partnership Conference hosted in Berlin, and other international events, regional initiatives and bilateral support.
Aboul Gheit added, in his speech to the Paris Conference in Support of Sudan today, Monday, that the Arab League is committed to accompanying the Sudanese state along the line, based on our inherent responsibility towards Sudan, which is an important member of the League and an active partner in the Arab system, and considering that the League was witness to the declaration Al-Dustoury in August 2019.
The Secretary-General went on to say that Arab countries and financial institutions are at the forefront of providing support to Sudan in various fields, and the League had previously provided support to Sudan to address the humanitarian situation in Darfur, combat the Corona pandemic, and deal with the repercussions of the floods that struck the country.
Aboul Gheit affirmed the university’s commitment to continuing its role, in accordance with the national priorities identified by Sudan itself, including through the joint mechanism between the university and the Sudanese government, which is currently considering crystallizing a set of development projects worth $ 100 million.
He praised the firm support provided by partner states and institutions to Sudan over the past period, including the bridging loans recently provided, calling on all partners to fulfill their commitments and mobilize more support to implement the national programs of the Sudanese state and its efforts to reform its economic structure, especially by completing the process of exempting Sudan from His debts are based on the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative, financing the family support program and other programs to support vulnerable groups, meeting Sudan's humanitarian and emergency needs, and the full deployment of the United Nations mission to implement its mandate under Security Council Resolution 2524.
He added, "We all welcomed the patriotic spirit of the brothers in Sudan when they reached the Juba Peace Agreement. We also appreciate the government's effort to include the rest of the armed movements that are not signatories to the agreement in the peace process. I am confident that Sudan's partners will intensify their support for the implementation of the agreement and its entitlements and provide them with funding, especially to build Peace, disarming and reintegration of combatants, returning displaced people, and advancing recovery in post-conflict areas. "
Aboul Gheit clarified the necessity of adhering to the sovereignty of Sudan, its territorial integrity, and its national unity. The process of its transition cannot be completed if there is something threatening its national security or detracting from its sovereignty or affecting its strategic interests, stressing the support of the Sudanese state in all the legitimate measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty and extend its control. Over its entire territory.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing the need to preserve his water rights, and we call for a binding legal agreement between Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam away from unilateral measures in a manner that takes into account the interests of the three countries and spares the region the ravages of turmoil and instability.
